This project replaced the existing two dual fuel 3,313 MBH boilers which served the entire building’s heating needs. The new boilers were sized to serve the entire Hospital load as it currently existed and incorporated an N+1 redundancy scheme to enhance reliability. A primary/secondary heating water piping system was equipped with VFD control of all pumps to improve energy efficiency by reducing pump energy use. Timing was critical and this design was completed on a fast-track to ensure heat was available for the 2017/2018 heating season. This is a 24 hour a day facility so the system had to be operational when heat was needed.
